Women's Soccer Powers By Corning 7-1

Women's soccer defeated Corning 7-1 on 9/14.

Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer (3-0) added to their winning streak with a 7-1 win on the road at Corning on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings were scored on early in the game, but did not give up and regrouped for the convincing victory. 

The Vikings fell 1-0 to Corning just over three minutes into the game, but used this as motivation and responded shortly after with their own goal to tie the game a 1-1. Brooke Clough took the ball down the field and quickly passed to Grace Cusack, who shot the ball into the lower left corner of the net for the goal. 

Clough went on to score the second goal for Hudson Valley at the 29-minute mark as she received a pass from Sydney Gile and dribbled down the field, slotting it into the lower left corner of the goal. The Vikings' ended the first half 2-1.

Hudson Valley Vikings continued to dominate as they went into the second half. Juliette Baker added to the board when Morgan Catlin passed the ball up the middle to Baker, who then dribbled up the field and took a shot to the lower right corner with 40 minutes remaining in the game

A couple minutes later, Baker scored her second goal of the game after collecting a pass from Clough, which placed her right in front of the goal. Baker converted on the easy shot and the Vikings extended their lead 4-1.

Caitlin Houghton scored her first goal of the game at the 21:49 minute mark after a pass from M. Catlin. Houghton took a touch on the ball, which deflected off Corning's goalie and rolled into the lower left of the net. 

Gile and Clough teamed up to score the last two goals of the game. Clough passed to Gile who ran the ball up the middle and placed it into the back of the net at the 36:18-minute mark. Immediately after, Clough and Gile rallied again for the final goal for the Vikings. Clough passed to Gile who one-touched the ball, sending it flying into the upper part of the goal with less than 10 minutes remaining 

Bailey Dunn earned the win in goal for Hudson Valley and managed to save five shots on the day. 

The Vikings have a quick turnaround as they are traveling west to take on Jamestown on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 12 p.m.
