Men's Soccer Advances to Semis With 2OT Win

PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Mohammed Kamara scored the golden goal with 58 seconds left in the second overtime, lifting Tyler Junior College past Indian Hills (Iowa) into the national soccer semifinals.

TJC (21-2) defeated Indian Hills 2-1 to win Pool D with a 2-0 record. The Warriors (18-3) finished pool play at 1-1.

The No. 4 Apaches, seeking their sixth national championship, will play tournament host and No. 3 Yavapai (Arizona) (23-2-3) in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Friday. The winner advances to the national championship game on Saturday.

"We try to make it exciting for everyone," TJC coach Steve Clements said. "This was not an easy bracket, very tough. (Warriors) executed well and had a great game plan. We had a couple of chances right before halftime but couldn't take advantage.The other semifinal has No. 8 Pima (Arizona) (19-4-3), which upset No. 1 St. Louis to win Pool A, taking on No. 2 Schoolcraft (Michigan) (17-0-0) at 1 p.m. Friday.

"I'm very proud of this team. This is the second time in three games we have had to go to overtime. This team is fit and never quits. We will try to get everyone healed up as best we can and get back out here (Friday)."

TJC goalkeeper Robbie Johnson had seven saves while his Indian Hills counterpart Ross Dalton had five saves.Kamara put TJC on top 1-0 on a penalty kick 9:39 into the game. The Apaches held a 1-0 lead until Akean Shackleford put the ball into the net at 62:23.
