No. 9 Apache Ladies top Bossier Parish
Four Apache Ladies hit in double figures as No. 9 Tyler Junior College defeated Bossier Parish Community College 92-70 on Saturday in a Region XIV women's basketball game in Bossier City, Louisiana.
LaPoynor sophomore Te'Aire Hambrick led the Apache Ladies with 19 points, including four 3-pointers. Also in double figures were Monroe, Louisiana freshman Niya McGuire (18), Fort Worth sophomore Kharisima Brown (17) and Rift Valley, Kenya sophomore Felmas Koranga (16).
Koranga had a double double as she had 17 rebounds, including six offensive.
"Bossier did not play like an 0-6 team," TJC coach Trenia Tillis Hoard said. "They are going to stun some teams. Twelve days off allowed them to revamp. We played a solid second half."
TJC led 42-41 at halftime, but outscored the Lady Cavaliers 20-11 in the third quarter and 30-18 in the fourth period to pull away.
The Apache Ladies outrebounded BPCC 58-34. Both Frankazia Boyd and Brown had eight rebounds with Gerlyn Smith and McGuire grabbing six apiece. Nala Hemingway had five boards.
Autumn Goram led the Lady Cavs with 10 points while Gabby Dodson had a double double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Chasidy Ross and Lauren Walker added 11 points each.
It was the eighth-straight win for TJC.
The Apache Ladies (10-2, 2-0 Region XIV) will play one more game before the Christmas break when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wagstaff Gymnasium. It will be the third annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Night. All fans are encouraged to wear their holiday sweaters for the game. Also fans can drop off an unwrapped toy for the Toys for Tots campaign in the Jimmy Butler Lobby of Wagstaff Gymnasium.
It was the first conference game for the Lady Cavaliers as they drop to 0-7 overall and 0-1 in league play. Bossier Parish is scheduled to visit Paris Junior College on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. game.
In other women's games on Saturday, Paris shocked Panola, 77-74; Trinity Valley won over Angelina, 81-58; Jacksonville downed Coastal Bend, 65-63; and Blinn beat Kilgore, 88-68.
