Bossier Parish Community College scored six runs in the top of the first inning, putting Lamar State College Port Arthur too deep in a hole, leading to a 10-1 loss in a pickup game at the Galveston College Tournament on Saturday morning.
The Seahawks, now 0-6 to start the season, missed out on a tournament trip to Cisco College this weekend because of a wintery weather cancellation. Coaches were able to pick up a game against the Lady Cavaliers in the annual Galveston College tourney.
The Cavaliers only collected six hits in the game though one was a double and two others home runs, including a grand slam in that first-inning rough-up.
BPCC added another run in the third, two in the fourth and five in the sixth before the Seahawks managed to get on the board with a run crossing in the bottom half of the fifth.
Grace Coffelt led off the fifth for the Seahawks with a walk, reaching second on a single by Savanna Trahan. Celeste Salazar grounded out for the first out of the inning but Trahan and Coffelt advanced on the play, putting runners at second and third.
Sophomore Vanessa Espitia grounded out on a full-count pitch but it was enough to plate Coffelt for the 10-1 final difference. Coffelt got the only other hit for the Seahawks with a two-out single in the bottom of the second inning.
Britni Hunt took the loss in the pitcher's circle while Savanna Wise and Alexa Garza worked in relief for the Seahawks.
The Hawks travel to Gulf Shores, Alabama next weekend for the Sun Chief Classic. On Friday, Feb. 14, LSCPA takes on John A. Logan College at 9 a.m. and Southern Union State Community College at 11:15.
On Saturday, Feb. 15, the Seahawks will face Snead State Community College at 1:30 p.m., Pensacola State College at 3:45 and Chattanooga State Community College at 6.
