Lady Roadrunners Fall in Opening Round of NJCAA National Tournament
One of the most successful seasons in State Fair Community College women’s basketball history came to an end with a 67-49 loss to No. 13 seed Arizona Western College in the first round of the NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship on Tuesday, March 25, at the Ford Wyoming Center.

CASPER, Wyoming – One of the most successful seasons in State Fair Community College women's basketball history came to an end with a 67-49 loss to No. 13 seed Arizona Western College in the first round of the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship on Tuesday, March 25, at the Ford Wyoming Center.
Sophomore guard Madison Johnson of Harrisonville gave No. 20 seed SFCC its only lead of the game with a layup and free throw, making it 5-4 with under seven minutes left in the first quarter.
Arizona Western responded with an 11-0 run. SFCC (24-7) trimmed the deficit to 17-12 at the end of the first quarter but trailed 38-27 at halftime. Arizona Western outscored the Lady Roadrunners 18-11 in the third quarter and never looked back.
SFCC struggled offensively, shooting just 28% from the field and converting only two of 20 attempts from beyond the arc. The Lady Roadrunners also committed 18 turnovers.
Johnson led SFCC with 12 points. Freshman forward Shae Wright of Grandview added nine points off the bench. Sophomore forward Kayla Sullivan of St. Louis pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Kimora McClure of Austin, Texas, and freshman guard Malia Rodgers of Montgomery City each recorded two assists. McClure and freshman guard Sophia Edwin of Killeen, Texas, shared the team lead with two steals apiece.
The Lady Roadrunners closed the 2024-25 season with their fifth appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament. Their 24 wins mark the program's most in a season since the 2010-11 campaign, which ended at the national tournament with a 29-6 record.
