Women's Basketball Falls 73-43 to Western Texas College

The Coastal Bend College women's basketball team fell to 0-5 on the new season today; losing to Western Texas College 73-43 in Odessa at the Wrangler Club Classic.

The Cougars found themselves in trouble early as they were outscored 11-4 in the games opening six minutes, when Precious Lopez grabbed a rebound and found Angelina Barela open on the other side of the lane.  That CBC bucket would fuel them to close the gap with WTC to eight points at the end of the first period.  Unfortunately for CBC, their scoring problems got worse in the second half as the Cougars saw the Westerners pour it on with a 20-9 quarter and 41-22 halftime lead.

The Cougars would not go quietly though as Samantha Atkinson-Roach heated up collecting six points, while Precious Lopez was able to grab 5 rebounds and six points of her own in the third period to cut into the WTC lead.  In the fourth quarter WTC, was happy to slow the game down tremendously and nurse their lead as CBC attempted to play catch up.  For the third time in as many games Atkinson-Roach led the Cougars in scoring with 12 points, while Precious Lopez grabbed 11 boards.

CBC has one more game on their "west coast" swing, when they take on host No. 10 Odessa College at 3:30 pm on Saturday.
