Bears Drop NJCAA Consolation Match to DuPage

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Dallas College Brookhaven's volleyball team lost to College of DuPage, 25-22, 25-20, 25-21, in the consolation bracket of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Tournament Friday.

The 10th-seeded Bears (14-17) beat the Chaparrals, which was seeded 11th, in four sets at the Blinn Invitational earlier this year.

Brookhaven struggled offensively, managing an .056 attack percentage. DuPage (24-17) hit .140.

Caroline Simpson had nine kills and eight digs for the Bears, who lost the serving battle 10 aces to three. Tabitha Westbrook had seven kills and a solo block. Jordan Bruscato had 16 assists, 11 digs and an ace. Trynity Hicks finished with 15 digs and two aces. Laila Beck had five kills, four blocks and a .308 attack rate. Madison Beasley had 12 digs.

DuPage's Melissa Alvarez had 17 kills and nine digs, while hitting .311. Amanda Leibrock had 14 kills, Ashley Bylsma 33 assists, three aces and 10 digs. Cyd Martinez had 17 digs and two aces. Abigail Alonzo had 15 digs.

Brookhaven outblocked DuPage, 5-2.
