Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer (11-3-1) lost a hard-fought match 3-2 on the road at Herkimer in the NJCAA Region 3 Quarterfinal round on Thursday afternoon.

The Vikings and the Generals had a back-and-forth game as they shared goals with the home team scoring first at the 13:00 mark. The Vikings caught up prior to halftime when Sydnee Metzold(Rotterdam/Schalmont) found Jessica Clifford(Rotterdam/Schalmont) for the goal on a corner kick.

Trailing 2-1 with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game, the Vikings tied the game up once again as Metzold assisted Brooke Clough(Latham/Shaker) for the score with 8:44 left on the clock.

Herkimer finished on top of the Vikings when Kristen Purcell sent a curving shot from the right side of the box and into the top left corner of the net for the game-winning goal. The shot was well-placed and just out of the reach of Vikings keeper Bailey Dunn(Saugerties/Saugerties). Dunn finished the game with eight saves.

The women's soccer season comes to a close as the Vikings finished with 10 or more wins for the secons straight season behind the high-powered offense which was led by sophomore Metzold's 28 goals, 17 assists and 73 points.

It is never too early to begin training for next season. If you are interested in joining the women's soccer program for spring training and the 2019 season, please contact head coach Jay Pokines at j.pokines@hvcc.edu.
