Trio of Chargers Shoot 79, Sandburg Takes 4th at Augustana Highland Championship

ROCK ISLAND — Three members of the Carl Sandburg College women's golf team posted rounds in the 70s as the Chargers took fourth place in the Augustana Highland Championship on Friday and Saturday at Highland Springs.

Sandburg posted a two-day total of 678, including a second-round 335 that was one shot away from matching the school record. The Chargers finished fourth in the 12-team field despite being the only two-year school in the tournament.

Freshman Ava Hackman shot a 79 in Saturday's second round and tied for 12th at 165 for the weekend. Sophomore Ellie Wasson also carded a 79 on Saturday and tied for 18th overall at 168. Sophomore Lainey Jensen opened the tournament with a 79 on Friday and finished at 170 to take 21st.

Augustana's A team had rounds of 304 and 301 to win by 48 shots over Wisconsin-Platteville. The Vikings' Avery Frick finished at 3 under par (71-70) to take medalist honors by 11 strokes.

Sandburg alumna Olivia Schwingle, now playing at Augustana, tied for 23rd with a score of 173.

The Chargers finished 18 shots back of third-place St. Ambrose. Sandburg beat the top teams from four-year programs Illinois College, Millikin, North Park, Monmouth and St. Xavier.
