SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team traveled to Brunswick Community College Saturday, April 26th and Sunday, April 27th for the three-game conference series with the Dolphins. After completion of the series, the Statesmen moved to 22-24 overall, 13-20 in conference play after dropping all three games to the Dolphins, 8-10, 1-6, and 6-9.
In game one, Richard Bland fell 8-10 despite out-hitting the Dolphins nine to eight. Samuel Young led Richard Bland with three hits in the game. A solo home run to right field by Macho Santiago put Richard Bland on the board in the top of the first. The Statesmen fell behind by six runs in the fifth inning, but then tried to fight back. They closed the gap by scoring on two singles, a double, a sacrifice fly, and a solo home run. Young hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the eighth for Richard Bland. Nate Riggs started on the mound for Richard Bland. The pitcher gave up four hits and six runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out none and walking one. Everett Stevens pitched three and one-third innings in relief for Richard Bland. The pitcher gave up three hits and two runs while striking out two and walking two.
In game two, Richard Bland dropped the game, 1-6. The Statesmen opened the scoring in the first after a wild pitch scored one run. Brunswick made the score 1-4 in the bottom of the first after an error scored one run, a double scored two runs, and a single scored one. Carson Herod and Myles Holmes each collected one hit for Richard Bland. Jackson Hulcher stepped on the mound first for the Statesmen. The starter surrendered six hits and five runs over three innings, striking out two and walking one.
In game three, Richard Bland was the first to get on the board in the first inning, when the Dolphins induced Jordan Ramsey into a fielder's choice, but one run scored. Brunswick jumped into the lead in the bottom of the second after two singles and a fielder's choice each scored one run. Richard Bland tied the game up in the top of the fifth thanks to two singles. Richard Bland accumulated nine hits in the game. Ramsey drove the middle of the lineup, leading with three runs batted in. Carson Herod led at the plate with three hits in four at bats. Charlie Hogan took the loss for the Statesmen. The right-handed pitcher went one and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs on five hits, striking out none and walking one. Luke Sweeney started the game for the Statesmen. The righty gave up eight hits and six runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking none.
The Richard Bland College Baseball team next hosts Bryant & Stratton College (VA) for the final game of the regular season, on Wednesday, April 30th. The team will also recognize their sophomore's pre-game.
