Soccer can be cruel at times. On Wednesday, the Tompkins Cortland women's team was reminded of that, as the Panthers outshot Corning Community College 26-12, but ended up losing in double overtime, 2-1. The Panthers are now 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Corning is 5-6 overall and 3-2 in the MSAC.

Both Corning goals came on free kicks. The first came in the form of a penalty kick with 24:50 left in the first half, giving the home team the 1-0 lead. The Panthers responded quickly, with Paris Good (Syracuse/Ithaca H.S.) putting in a rebound a minute later, tying the score at 1-1. Despite having many chances, the Panthers couldn't get another past the Corning, sending the game to extra time. After a scoreless ten-minute period, the time was winding down in the second overtime when the Red Barons took advantage of a direct kick to end the game after 108 minutes of play.

Goalkeeper Kerrin O'Shaughnessy (Worcester/Worcester H.S.) had 10 saves on the day for the Panthers.

The Panthers will be on the road again this weekend, playing at Finger Lakes Community College on Sunday.
