EL DORADO – Sophomore Teagan Flanagan slashed his career-best 8,000-meter time and helped the No. 4-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's cross country team to a runner-up finish at the 2020 Region VI Championships on Friday.

Flanagan cut 8.2 seconds off his previous best with a time of 24:58.80 to finish third in both the Region VI race and Jayhawk West race. Flanagan posted the third-fastest 8K time by a Blue Dragon in a Region VI Championship. The time was also the ninth-fastest overall in Blue Dragon history.

Division II Cowley won the overall men's title, but Cloud County was the Division I Region VI champion with 59 points. The Blue Dragons had 99 points in the region team standings and 46 in the Jayhawk West standings.

The Blue Dragons place second in both the region and conference for the second-year in a row.

Sophomore Jacob Mcelhanon was the second Blue Dragon to finish. He was ninth in the region and sixth in the conference at 26:22.70.

Freshman Cameron Delaney was 13th in the region and ninth in the KJCCC West with a time of 27:07.57

Sophomore Matthew Schrag was 20th in the region and 13th in the league with 27:38.06.

Sophomore Andrew Holt was 22nd and 15th, respectively, with a time of 27:48.10.

Freshman Aaron Geissinger was 29th and 21st, respectively, posting a time of 28:25.70

Freshman Jareth Carrasco placed 57th in the region and 35th in the league at 31.31.14.

The Blue Dragons have one meet left, the 2020 NJCAA Division I National Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 14 in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
