The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team went on the road to #8 St. Cloud Technical and Community College and came away with a 89-81 win to stay unbeaten in MCAC Southern Division play.
The Golden Rams jumped out to a 5-0 lead and led 11-4 just two and a half minutes into the game, but a 9-0 St. Cloud Tech run would put Anoka-Ramsey behind 16-11.
A three-pointer from Edvonte Copeland tied the game at 21 apiece with 12:20 left in the half and the score would still be tied 30-all with nine minutes to play before things began falling apart for the Golden Rams.
St. Cloud Tech scored the next seven points to lead 37-30, then would outscore Anoka-Ramsey 12-4 over the next four minutes to take a 49-34 lead with a minute left in the half.
Copeland connected on a three-pointer followed by a Zane Lind layup, but two free Cyclone free throws would give St. Cloud Tech a 51-39 lead at halftime; the largest halftime deficit for the Golden Rams all season.
Anoka-Ramsey shot just 39.5 percent in the first period and allowed St. Cloud Tech to shoot 48.6 percent.
The Cyclones would score a layup to start the second half and lead by 14 before the Golden Rams started to chip away.
Trailing 58-47, Copeland would get a steal and a layup, followed by a Lind layup, and a three-pointer from Mamadou Ngom to pull the Golden Rams within 58-56.
St. Cloud went back up by nine, 65-56 with 11:43 to play, but two Harley Shear layups sandwiched around a Copeland three would cut the deficit back down to two points, 65-63 with ten minutes to play.
St. Cloud Tech took a 69-65 lead but another Ngom three pulled Anoka-Ramsey within one, 69-68.
Following a St. Cloud Tech field goal, Ngom would score five straight, Chris Morgan would add a layup and Shear would get another basket for a 9-0 Golden Ram run to lead 77-71 with 4:15 to play.
The Cyclones cut the deficit to four, but two Mahad Haji free throws, followed by another free throw from Copeland pushed the lead up to seven, 80-73 with 1:11 left.
Two St. Cloud Tech free throws pulled the Cyclones within five points, but Ngom would make seven free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Anoka-Ramsey shot 44.1 percent and held St. Cloud Tech to 39.4 percent - 30.6 percent in the second half.
Ngom led all scorers with 34 points on 9 of 12 shooting including 4 of 4 from the three-point line and 12 of 13 from the free throw line.
Copeland finished with 22 points.
Morgan had 11 points and six rebounds.
Lind pulled in eight rebounds.
The #4 Golden Rams improve to 16-1, 4-0 in MCAC Southern Division.
Anoka-Ramsey will host Minnesota West on Wednesday, January 25 at 7:45pm for Military Appreciation Night.
