Highland Men's Basketball Falls to Johnson County in Region Semifinals to Cap Season

After claiming a spot in the Region VI Semifinals and their 20th win of the season last Friday the Highland men's basketball team faced off with #15 Johnson County for the third time this season this time in the Region VI Semifinals on Tuesday night.

While the Scotties hung tough their late surge back into the contest wasn't enough as the season came to an end with a tough 73-68 loss on the road. The loss capped the Scotties at a 20-11 record for the season marking the fourth straight year the Scotties have won 20+ games.

After a slow and falling behind 11-3 early in the contest Highland pushed back but continually saw Johnson County stave off their advances and the Cavaliers led 36-28 at intermission.

The deficit for Highland grew to double figures in the second half but the Scotties didn't go away quietly making some advances back at Johnson County late and drew with four in the final minutes of the game but the Cavaliers would hit free throws down the stretch to take the 73-68 win.

Highland shot 40% from the field including 6-13 from three-point range but Johnson County countered with a 50% shooting performance and went 21-29 from the free throw line.

In the loss Marquise Milton paced the Scotties with 22 points and went 10-10 from the charity stripe, while Rashon Johnson capped his Highland career with a 17 point and seven rebound performance. Jaron Flowers added 16 points on the bench on 7-13 shooting with two assists.

The loss closes out the Highland season as the Scotties wrap up the year with a 20-11 record for the 2019-20 season.
