Loch Sheldrake, NY - The RVCC Women's basketball team opened up their season with a win against Monore Community College at Sullivan's Tip Off Classic. The Lions got off to an early lead behind several three pointers from Le'Ana Brown, Kerine Thomas and Antonia Polvere and never looked back. Thomas and Polvere each had 4 triples and Brown added 3 as the Lions shot 39% from behind the arc on the day. Tiana Presley controlled the glass for the Lions as she nearly finished with a double double as she had 9 points to go along with her team high 10 boards. Freshman Alexia Mia Martà almost notched a double as well finishing with 9 points and 9 boards. The two leading scorers for the Lions were both Freshman as Polvere knocked in 20 and Thomas had 19 in their collegiate debuts. Brown finished with 17 and Makhia Robinson added 6 to go with her 8 boards on the day.
The following day the Lions traveled back up to SUNY Sullivan to take on the host Generals. After giving up a 23 point first quarter lead the Lions battled all the way back to within 8 mid way through the 3rd quarter. However, the initial lead was too big a gap to overcome and the Lions eventually fell 63-43. Thomas finished with 13 and Mia Marti had 10 for the Lions in the loss.
The Lions are back in action on Wednesday night as they host the Mustangs from Monroe College at 5 PM.
