KIRKWOOD PLACES 8TH AT VOLLEYBALL NATIONALS

They were seeded eighth and finished eighth.

That was the story for the Kirkwood women's volleyball team at the NJCAA Division II national tournament Saturday at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse.

The Eagles were trimmed by Heartland, 3-2, in their last contest in a tight affair. Kirkwood led, 2-1, after grabbing the first and third sets, but Heartland squared the match with a 25-17 victory in Set 4 and took the last set 15-12.

Kirkwood finished the season with a 27-15 record and went 1-3 in the tournament.

Kamara Dickerson had 18 kills for the Eagles against Heartland. Emily Strauss added 17 kills and Jada Golden-Smith had 13. Rachael Nelson collected 46 assists.

Emma Link made 22 digs, Takoa Kopriva 21 and Nelson 20.

So. OH Emily Strauss was selected to the 2021 NJCAA DII All-Tournament Team.
