Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Big second half boosts Scotties to 12th win of season

After a back and forth first half Thursday night, the Highland Men's basketball team came alive in the second to defeat On Point Hoops Academy 100-79 for their first win of 2018 and their 12th of the season.

For most of the first half, On Point stood their ground against a tough 11-5 Highland team. They led the game 33-32 with 3:36 left to play in the first half but that would be their final time to lead. Highland put together a 13-4 run to end the half and headed to the locker room with a 45-37 lead.

That energy carried into the second half as Highland scored 12 unanswered points to start the half. That run happened with the help of two threes by Haskins and Redparth and baskets by Alonzo Williams and Taiveyhon Mason. Highland now led 57-37 with 17:06 left to play.

Highland led by as much as 30-points two different times during the half but finished with a 21-pooint, 100-79 victory.

Holden Redparth posted his fourth double-double of the season scoring 23 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Jaylin Rutherford finished with 15 points while Taiveyhon Mason scored 13 points and dished out six assists. Ryan Haskins had another great night from behind the arc going 4-6 from deep and scoring 12 points. James Caldwell had a balanced attack with eight points and eight rebounds. Every Scottie scored in the contest.

Rebounding and sharing the ball was key in the win as Highland out rebounded On Point 42-26 and dished out 23 assists.

Highland will play two more non-conference games before KJCCC play cranks up on January 24. The Scotties will travel to Lamoni, IA to take on Graceland University JV on Friday, January 12 at 7:00pm.
