Thunderducks Earn At-Large Bid to National Tournament

Dallas College Richland men's basketball team was selected for an at-large bid to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Tournament next week at Herkimer College in Herkimer, New York.

The 15th-ranked Thunderducks are making their ninth appearance in the national tournament – their first since 2020. Richland has won three national championships, including the 2015 title under head coach Jon Havens, who captured the crown in his first season with the Thunderducks.

Seeded ninth, Richland (20-11) meets eighth-seeded Northern Essex Community College (28-3) in Wednesday's 11 a.m. CT opening round. The winner plays top-seeded Dutchess Community College (25-1) in the Thursday's 12 p.m. CT quarterfinals. 

Dallas College Mountain View (15-18) also earned an automatic bid to the tournament after beating Richland in the NJCAA Division III South Central District title game Saturday. 

The 12-team field will crown a champion Saturday, March 15 at 4 p.m. CT. Games will air on the NJCAA Network, and can be followed via Live Stats.

Richland sophomore guard Barack Holland averages 12.5 points and 1.4 steals per game, while shooting 36.6 percent from the 3-point line and 72 percent from the free throw stripe. Sophomore guard Cjay Ingram averages 11.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.9 steals. He's a 73 percent free throw shooter. Sophomore forward Mannie Odo is scoring 10.3 points and grabbing a team-best 6.1 boards, while shooting 52.3 percent. Sophomore forward Nehemiah Jones is averaging 8.5 points and 4.8 rebounds, while shooting 54.7 percent. Sophomore guard Trey Wright is averaging 8.1 points, 3.1 assists and 1.4 steals.

Freshman Alejandro Delgado is averaging 15 points and 8.6 rebounds, while shooting 56.7 percent from field and 71.3 percent from the free throw line. Sophomore Javien Kirmil is averaging 11.8 points, and shooting 74 percent from the free throw stripe. Freshman Alex Johnson is scoring 10 points, and shooting 45.5 percent from the floor and 70 percent from the free throw line. Sophomore Karl Wolfgang (7.2) and freshman Christian Sanders (6.9) are combining for 14 rebounds per game.
