RedTail Softball Drops Two

RedTail Softball Drops Two

The Hawkeye RedTail Softball Team hosted their first conference matchup against Des Moines Area Community College on March 29th. The RedTails lost both games to DMACC, losing game one 13-0 and losing game two 15-2.

Game 1: 0 (HCC), 13 (DMACC)

The Bears struck first in the bottom of the first inning and continued to score throughout the game to pull ahead of the RedTails. A walk, stolen base, sacrifice bunt, and sacrifice fly opened the can for DMACC putting them ahead 1-0. DMACC then scored seven more runs in the third, three runs in the fourth, and two runs in the fifth to put them in the lead.

The RedTails couldn't get their bats going and fell short on the offensive side of the plate, having zero hits in the game.

Sidney Schafer suffered the loss on the mound, going pitching five innings, giving up 12 hits, seven earned runs, one walk, and one strikeout.

Game 2: 2 (HCC), 15 (DMACC)

DMACC started the game again striking in the top of the first from a single and scoring off of a sacrifice fly. The Bears scored five more runs in the top of the second to go up 6-0. They added three more runs in the top of the third and six more runs to cap off at 15 runs in the game.

The RedTails found some life at the plate in the bottom of the fourth when Lizzy Hamand forced an error and scoring from a homerun from Dharma Woodruff.

Unfortunately it wasn't enough for the RedTails, suffering a 15-2 loss.

Woodruff led the RedTails at the plate going 1-2 with one home run, two runs batted in, and one run scored. Woodruff also took the loss on the mound, going three innings, giving up seven hits, six earned runs, and one walk. Courtney Hemsley finished the game on the mound, going two innings, giving up three hits, three earned runs, and one strikeout.

The RedTails move to 4-14 on the season, and 0-2 in conference play. Hawkeye will be back in action tomorrow, March 30th at home for two more conference games against North Iowa Area Community College. Game time is set for 1:00 and 3:00 PM.
