NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The NIACC softball team split a doubleheader with NDSCS at the Dundas Dome on Saturday.
NIACC dropped the first game 3-1 and won the second game 9-8 in eight innings giving Matt Egger his first win as the NIACC softball coach.
In the second game, NIACC's Hailey Worman advanced to third base on a ball in the dirt and scored the winning run on an overthrow at third base by the NDSCS catcher with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
NIACC tied the contest with two outs in the seventh inning when freshman Shaye Theobald, who had four RBIs in game two, hit a three-run home run to left-center field.
In the second game, Worman and Maddy Ringen both collected three hits. Kayla Noelker had two hits for the Trojans.
Ringen collected the win in relief for the Trojans. Ringen did not allow a run with three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings of work.
In the first game, NIACC, which was held to one hit, scored its lone run in the seventh inning with an RBI from Ravyn Krachey. Sydney Toman collected the lone hit in the opener for the Trojans.
NIACC returns to action Friday in a non-conference doubleheader at Johnson County CC in Overland Park, Kan.
