Laramie County CC men roll past MCC 85-71

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The McCook Community College men lost an 85-71 decision on the road Saturday to Laramie County Community College.

"We played 11 minutes of good basketball," said MCC Coach Jacob Brandl. "We had very little attention to detail and anytime you can't follow a scouting report and stay locked in it's tough to win games especially on the road."

Despite shooting 45.8 percent from the field in the first half and limiting the Golden Eagles to a 41.4 percent showing, it was LCCC that took a 37-30 halftime lead.

MCC finished the game shooting 47.2 percent from the field, made six of 14 3-pointers (42.0 percent) and hit 15 of 26 free throws (57.5 percent).

"We have to find ways to win games, you shoot 47 percent from the field and get 26 free throw shots, then you feel pretty good about your chances to win but when you also have 17 turnovers and get beat up on the glass it cancels it out," said Brandl.

Laramie County shot 43.3 percent from the field, made 11 of 24 shots from the arc (45.3 percent) and went 22 of 30 from the line (73-3 percent. LCCC held a 42-34 rebound edge. They had five players score in double figures led by 20 points from Ghared Boyce off the bench. The Golden Eagles improve to 8-5 on the season.

Beni Fungula (Stockholm, Sweden) came off the bench to spark MCC offensively with 23 points. Julian Lual (Calgary, Alberta) scored 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

Damien Perry (Wareham, Mass.) scored 12 points and D'Andre Dennis (Charlotte, N.C.) scored 11 points and picked up six rebounds.

"We have to have a professional approach these next couple days and go into break feeling better about where we are at," said Brandl.

MCC goes to 2-12 and closes out the semester schedule on the road Tuesday in Kansas against Highland Community College at 7:30 p.m.
