
Reivers Win Region 11 Title
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - For the 28th time in program history, 4th-ranked Iowa Western Baseball won the ICCAC Region 11 title, defeating Indian Hills (34-20) 7-3 in game two to sweep the best-of-three series.
The Reivers (50-7) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a single by AJ Singer and an RBI sacrifice fly from Kyle Hvidsten in the bottom of the 1st inning. Indian Hills answered right back in the 3rd inning, scoring three runs on a pair of singles and a two-run triple from Raul Torres.
Iowa Western promptly tied the game up at 3 after back-to-back singles by Josh Wakefield and Singer to open the bottom of the frame, Hvidsten drove both of them in on a double to left field.
With the game knotted up at 3 in the bottom of the 6th, IW earned a pair of one-out walks by Reese Harmon and Easton Mains, Brody Sexton lined out to center field to set up the lead-off hitter Wakefield. The Reiver lefty, hit a frozen rope down the right field line for a 2-run triple to break the tie. Singer would cap off the inning with an RBI double to pad the lead.
Brynner Waiolama (2-0) entered the game in relief in the top of the 4th and dominated for five innings. The freshman right-hander from Torrance, CA gave up just a pair of hits, striking out three Warrior batters and retired the final 10 batters he faced to earn the win.
Singer finished the day 4-5 with a double, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Wakefield ended 2-5 on the night with a triple, 2 RBI, and 2 Runs.
The Reivers will now head to Illinois for the Midwest District Tournament, facing the winners of Region 4 and 24 on May 15th-18th in Illinois.
This is the 11th time in program history that the team has earned 50 or more wins in a season and the first since 2021. For 2nd-year Head Coach Ryan Cougill, this is his first ICCAC Region 11 title and 4th region championship of his coaching career.
