LONGWOOD, Fla. (February 20, 2021) – Tallahassee Community College's softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday on day one of the Courtney Miller Invitational, hosted by Seminole State College.
The Eagles (2-8) fell to St. Petersburg College, 5-3, in their first game of the day then lost to State College of Florida, 8-2.
In the opener, Tallahassee took a 3-1 lead to the sixth before St. Petersburg struck for three runs then added an insurance run in the seventh for the 5-3 victory.
After the teams traded second-innings runs – Tallahassee scored on Emery Mayne's RBI-double – Mayne smoked a two-run homer to left-center in the fourth to put the Eagles in front, 3-1.
Mayne also started in the circle and allowed only one run and five hits through four innings.
Emily Oakes (0-2) came on in the fifth and pitched a scoreless frame before running into trouble an inning later.
The Titans strung together three singles and took advantage of a Tallahassee error to plate three runs and take a 4-3 lead.
Mayne finished 2-for-3 with three RBI then drove in both of the Eagles' runs in the 8-2 loss to State College of Florida.
She got the Eagles on the board first with a run-scoring single in the third. The Manatees scored the next four runs then, after Mayne's RBI-double in the fifth, plated four more runs in the sixth.
Mayne again went 2-for-3 while Stacey Hudson was 3-for-3.
Emma Fowler (1-3) took the loss in the circle for the Eagles.
