Unbeaten, 17th-ranked Navarro (2-0), advancing to No. 14 in the latest NJCAA D-I Poll, welcomes the McLennan Highlanders for a non-conference basketball clash at 7 pm Wednesday at Lewis Orr Court in The Wolens Special Events Center.
Coach Kevin Gill's undefeated Highlanders won their fifth straight game Monday by taking down the Angelina Roadrunners 89-53 at Shands Gymnasium in Lufkin. MCC limited Angelina to 18 second-half points while winning its first road game of the season.
Coach Grant McMillan's Bulldogs are coming off a 71-54 road win Saturday at Weatherford College's Graber Gym. Sophomore Sabry Philip led three Bulldogs in double-figure scoring with 21 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals, plus four blocked shots. The 6-foot-4 wing from Edmonton, Canada, is off to a hot start, hitting 14 of 18 shots from the floor in two games.
Freshman Xavier Pina hit 5-of-8 three-pointers and finished with 15 Saturday, while Justin Thomas contributed 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Terrance Thompson added nine points, nine rebounds, and five of Navarro's 12 blocked shots Saturday.
Navarro hit 53 percent of its shots from the floor, with coming 44 percent comingt from 11-of-25 shooting beyond the circle.
