Men's TF Wins Region I Championship

Mesa, Ariz. - The Thunderbirds men's track & field team won the Region I Championship on Thursday evening, scoring 258 points.

This is the fourth region title in program history and the first since 2019. Makel Hubbard won the Male Athlete Most Outstanding Performer Award, scoring 35 points overall.

In the men's 4x100 meter relay, (Khamis Hassan, Jacob Samford, Aiden Harvey, and Tyson Tippett) were the region champs and ran a new season-best time of 40.48.

In the 1500-meter final, Yotuel Garcia was second (4:01.38), Geoffrey Grossthal was fourth (4:06.29), and Connor King was sixth (4:08.89 personal best). In the 5000-meter final, Garcia (15:27.31) and King (16:24.12 PB) doubled back to finish first and eighth.

In the shot put, Noah Miller was second (15.52m), Desmond Lott was third (15.27m), and Alex Hernandez was eighth (12.61). In the discus, Lott was the region champ (48.03m), Miller was fourth (42.61m), and Hubbard was eighth (36.12m). In the high jump, Hubbard was second (1.97m), Theodore Gosselin was fifth (1.77m), and Colten Jackson was sixth (1.77m PB). In the triple jump, Gevon Grimes was sixth (13.09m) and Nicholas Covert was eighth (10.74m PB).

In the 100-meter dash final, Tippett (second, 10.52 PB), Harvey (third, 10.66 PB), and Hassan (eighth, 10.89) earned regional honors. In the 200-meter dash final, Harvey was the region champ (21.43 PB), Tippett was second (21.50), and Samford was fourth (21.54). In the 400-meter-dash final, Samford was second (47.61), Grimes was fifth (49.65), T. Gosselin was seventh (50.03 PB), and Joshua Boehm was eighth (50.09 PB).

In the 110-meter hurdles, Hubbard was the region champ (14.83 PB) and D'ari Lambert was eighth (16.69 PB). In the 400-meter hurdles, Malik Chandler was third (56.06), Jackson was fifth (58.48), and Keyon Lindsay was eighth (1:00.44 PB).
