Rockville, MD – The Cardinals completed an impressive doubleheader sweep against the Montgomery College Raptors on Sunday. The Cardinals were clicking on all cylinders, winning both games by a score of 15-2 and 8-6.
Game 1
Game 1 was all Cardinals. They put this game away with some huge scoring outputs. The game was called after five innings thanks to a four-run second inning, three-run third inning, and eight-run fifth inning.
The offense was dominant for Catonsville, with every batter reaching base at least one time. Nelson Grajales kept up his hot hitting with two more hits including a homerun in this one. A.J Perry also had a homerun and drove in three runs on the day, while Sebastian Guzman had two hits and three RBI of his own. You could find contributions throughout the lineup in Game 1.
The offense may have been the highlight, but Coby Vallee also turned in a tremendous start on the mound. He pitched all five innings while striking out seven batters and allowing just two runs (one earned).
Game 2
The offense showed up once again in Game 2. The Cardinals followed up their Game 1 performance with eight runs and 15 hits to secure the sweep.
The Cardinals had four players record multi-hit performances. Nelson Grajales went 3-5 with two RBI, while Joel Tapia Melo had three hits of his own including a triple. Lyonel Barthelemy and Sebastian Guzman each had two hits as well.
It wasn't a dominant performance from A.J Palumbo on the mound, but he managed to fight through 5.2 innings to secure the win. He allowed five runs (four earned) while striking out six batters. Dominic DeBellis finished the game off with 1.1 innings in relief allowing one run.
For the Montgomery County Raptors, Trey Mason and Justin Payan led the offense in the close loss. They each tallied multiple hits, including homeruns for each of them.
