The #1 McLennan Highlanders remain undefeated on the season with a pair of shut-out wins over the Vernon Chaparrals today at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan took game one 8-0 in six innings with Katia Reyes in the circle.
The first two Highlander runs came in the bottom of the third. Ellie Loveless walked and Taylor Meier singled. Madison Hornback also walked, loading the bases. Trinity Allen drew a walk, scoring Loveless, and Meier scored on a sacrifice fly by Kyla Heine.
Three more McLennan runs scored in the fifth. Meier was hit by the pitch and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Hornback. Heine singled, and Reyes followed with a three-run homer.
The Highlanders secured the run rule with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Madison Garcia singled and Loveless walked. Meier singled to score Garcia. Loveless then stole third and scored on an error. Allen followed with a single to score Meier, ending the game.
Makenzi Jenkins got the complete-game 3-0 victory in game two for McLennan.
The Highlanders first run came in the bottom of the first as Meier singled, stole second and scored on a single by Hornback.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the fifth. Maddie Moore singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Meier. Hornback singled to score Moore, and Allen walked. Hornback then stole home on the double steal.
