Highland Men go 2-0 over the weekend in Overland Park

The Highland Men's Basketball team improved to 9-4 this season after going 2-0 over the weekend at Johnson County Community College defeating Washburn University JV and John Wood Community College.
 
Friday vs. Washburn JV
 
After losing 68-65 to the Ichabods in the second game of the season, Highland got revenge on Washburn JV defeating them 90-70 on Friday.
 
Alonzo Williams, who only scored seven points in the first matchup, led all scorers with 20 points. He also added in six rebounds, four steals and two assists. Holden Redparth had another big night posting a double-double scoring 17 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Dylan Owen was the other Scottie in double figures with 10 points.
 
Highland performed significantly better in every stat category from the first matchup with Washburn. The most notable was shooting the ball 45% from the floor and 35% from behind the arc where as they only shot 32% from the floor and 21% from deep in the previous matchup.
 
The Scotties shared the ball well offensively totaling 19 assists in the game. They out rebounded the Ichabods 49-36 and forced 13 turnovers and stole the ball 11 times.
 
 
Saturday vs. John Wood
 
Head Coach Jerre Cole and the Scotties knew they would have their work cut out for them on Saturday as they would take on a 6-3 John Wood Community College team. A team that has defeated Highland rival Johnson County twice this season, 91-51 & 68-62.
 
After a tight first half, 36-31, Highland turned on the jets in the second and outscored the Blazers 55-28 to take the victory 91-59 and chalk up win number nine on the season.
 
 
Sophomore guard Ryan Haskins was on fire going 7-10 from behind the arc and leading the team with 23 points. Kevin Perry had a big game coming off the bench scoring 13 points and pulling down six rebounds. Holden Redparth added in 12 points and eight boards while Taiveyhon mason chipped in 10 points and dished out nine assists.
 
Highland shot 56% from the floor and 52% from deep and held the Blazers to 42% from the floor and only 16% from behind the arc. The Scottie defense forced 20 turnovers and had 12 steals. They out rebounded John Wood 32-27 while limiting them to only five offensive rebounds and zero second chance points.
 
The Scotties are now 9-4 on the season and will travel to Southeast Community College in Beatrice, NE this Friday and Saturday to play Central Community College-Columbus and Southeast Community College. Highland is set for a 4:00pm game time on Friday and 6:00pm on Saturday.
