Bears rebound to spilt with Wildcats

It was a tail of two games here at Pete Goldsby Field.  The Bears were completely dominated by the Wildcats in game one losing  20 to 4.  The Bears did not lay down and came out with a strong pitching performance by Joseph Battaglia III to grab a 3 to 2 victory in game two.

Game 1

Pearl River would jump out to an early three to zero lead in the second inning. The Bears would fight back and tie the game in the bottom of the second. Kolby Blanchard would lead off with a double and would score when Seth Daugherty would reach on error. Tyler Caston would then hit a double scoring two runs to tie the game.

Pearl River would score 13 runs over the next three innings to take a commanding 16 to 3 lead. The Bears would tact on a run in the sixth inning when Hunter David would double and score on a Lee Whitaker sac fly. The Wildcats were not finished and scored four more runs in the seventh inning.

Baton Rouge  would attempt a comeback but could not rally,in the seventh, thus ending the game via the run rule 20 to 4.

Brandt Garrett took the loss for the Bears pitching three and two thirds innings allowing 8 runs on 10 hits. Camden Dusang got the win for Pearl River pitching 7 innings allowing 4 runs on 6 hits and striking out 5.

Pearl River out hit Baton Rouge 22 to 6.

Game 1 Bears  Highlights:

Kolby Blanchard went 2 for 3 with 1 Run

Tyler Caston went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs

Hunter David went 1 for 2 with 1 Run

 

Game Two:

The Bears used an excellent pitching performance by Joseph Battaglia III and some clutch hitting by Blanchard and Schopp to earn a 3 to 2 victory, in the nightcap.  Battaglia pitched five strong innings allowing only 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 5.  He would earn the win for the Bears. Baton Rouge also used a strong bullpen effort from Evan Becnel and Keith Meier, who combined to pitch the final two innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit and striking out 4.  Keith Meier would record the last four outs to earn the save for BRCC.

The Bears would get on the board with 1 run in the second inning. BRCC capitalized on some free passes by Pearl River's pitcher.  Samuel Jarrell and Evan Vickers took back to back walks and Joseph Schopp would single to right field scoring Jarrell. After two innings the Bears led 1 to 0.

Baton Rouge would get on the board again in the third inning with two runs. Kolby Blanchard singled to left field scoring Whitaker. Samuel Jarrell would drive in the second run with a single to centerfield scoring David.  After three innings the Bears led 3 to 0.

Pearl River would finally get on the board, in the fifth inning, with 1 run. They would tact on another run in the sixth inning via the homerun ball.

Keith Meier would shut the door on the Wildcats, in the seventh, with a ground out and 2 strikeouts.

Final score of game two was Bears 3 and Wildcats 2.

Seth Daugherty went 1 for 3 with 1 BB

Kolby Blanchard went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI

Samuel Jarrell went 1 for 2 with 1 Run and 1 RBI

Joseph Schopp went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI and 1BB

Joseph Battaglia III pitched 5 innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits

Keith Meier pitched one  and one-third innings allowing 0 Runs on 0 Hits and striking out 2.

 

Baton Rouge will be back in action this Saturday March 24 as they travel to Raymond, MS to take on Hinds Community College Eagles in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
