Tough night from the field plagues Beavers

DODGE CITY, Kan.- Having shot less than 19 percent as team, the Beavers were on the wrong end of a lopsided 71-47 score against the Conquistadors.

Eva Sanchez was the lone Beaver to finish the evening in double-figures, scoring a career-high 14 points. Sanchez also contributed nine rebounds, seven of which came on the offensive end of the floor. Pratt wasn't without second-chance opportunities, outrebounding Dodge City 27-9 in terms of offensive rebounds.

However, the Beavers saw only 14 of their 74 field goal attempts (18.9 percent) convert into points, including 3-23 from beyond the arc (13 percent), and 16-24 from the free throw line (66.7 percent).

The game's momentum quickly shifted in Dodge City's favor, jumping out to a 19-9 first quarter lead. The Beavers eventually went in to the halftime locker room down 34-19, making only six field goals in the game's first 20 minutes.

The third quarter proved to be the tipping point for the Conquistadors, outscoring the Beavers 24-9 coming out of the halftime break, creating a lead as large as 30 points at quarter's end. Pratt's best offensive work came in the fourth quarter, scoring 19 points, but by then it was too little too late.

The Beavers fall to 12-10 overall with the loss, and 6-7 in conference play. The Beavers will have a chance to gain some ground in the KJCCC West this weekend, as Pratt hosts Colby (15-7, 6-7) at 2 PM at the Beaver Dome on Saturday.
