Holmes falls to Gulf Coast in season opener

GOODMAN --- Holmes Community College freshmen Kerrick Ross and Thomas McCauley accounted for the Bulldogs' two scores tonight in Goodman versus Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Gulf Coast won 56-14.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 0-1 on the season. Holmes will travel to Hinds next Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.

Gulf Coast got the scoring started late in the first quarter when the Bulldogs mishandled a punt snap. Gulf Coast jumped on it in the end zone to go up 7-0 after the extra point was good.

Holmes fumbled on the first play in the second quarter, and Gulf Coast capitalized on a 45-yard touchdown pass. The extra point made it 14-0 Gulf Coast with 14:44 left in the second.

Gulf Coast scored again with 11:51 left in the second on a 32-yard touchdown pass. The extra point made it 21-0. Gulf Coast scored again with 6:56 on a 72-yard touchdown run. The extra point made it 28-0.

Holmes' Ross got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard seconds later when he fielded the kickoff at the two and raced it in for the score. Luke Moffett's extra point made it 28-7 with 6:40 left in the second.

Gulf Coast added another score with nine seconds to go in the second on another TD pass. The extra point was good, and Gulf Coast led 35-7 at the half.

The Gulf Coast Bulldogs increased the lead to 42-7 with 10:30 left in the third on another TD pass. The extra was good. Gulf Coast added a rushing TD with 9:26 left in the fourth. The extra point made it 49-7.

McCauley had several good runs late in the fourth and drove the ball to the one before pounding it in from there. Moffett's extra point made it 49-14 with 1:44 left in the game.

Gulf Coast added a touchdown with 30 seconds to play on a touchdown run. The extra point was good ending all scoring at 56-14.
