Three hits for catcher Brady Welch in Wednesday's 13-7 Vaquero win against South Mountain Community College
Three hits for catcher Brady Welch in Wednesday's 13-7 Vaquero win against South Mountain Community College

Vaqueros rap 17 hits in second game of home-away sweep of ACCAC Conference leader

"Great to see the offense get going against a good team" said the head coach Anthony Gilich.

Yessir.

It's ASU transfer Zach Hogueisson now with the red-hot stick, smacking a homerun and adding an assortment of other donations at the plate, Brennan Reback returning to form, catchers are hitting, and Ernny Ordonez continues to rip the baseball.

Ordonez will probably never be referred to as having a "hot bat" (sigh). But that's what happens when you always hit.

Josh Dudden is hitting the ball all over the place and Hunter Jump hasn't seemed to have a problem with good contact the whole year.

You know about the pitching.

In the away game of the two game series versus conference leader South Mountain Community College on Wednesday, it was 9-2 before you ate a half bag of mild nutty tasting sunflower seeds.

The Vaqueros got fine enough pitching in the 13-7 win. Avery Jones won again (6-1) striking out six in his five innings, Jye Deeble, Zane Strand, Brandon Jenkins, and DJ Carpenter did well enough to leave with smiles on their faces.

This was the time to show what you can do and Central did it.

The first four batters assembled 9 hits on the day in Matt Aribal, Dudden, Ordonez, and Hogueisson. Right fielder Jump posted three more singles, catcher Brady Welch doubled as one of his three hits, and shortstop Ian Raidy didn't have multiple hits, but he tripled.

"The hitters picked us up, needed to win one that way" the head coach added.

Central now sits a game and a half back of first place South Mountain, with the two wins, the Vaqueros put an end to the Cougars ten game winning streak.
