TUPELO, Miss. - The Indians made a strong push heading into the final day of the MACJC and NJCAA Region 23 tennis tournaments.
SINGLES
Reese Duncan (Pontotoc) defeated Skyler Rasberry of Southwest 6-0, 6-1 in No. 3 singles and Zak Keith (Tupelo) knocked off Cullin Hendry of Southwest 6-0, 6-0 in No. 4 singles play to start the day off on a positive note for the Indians.
Franco Roldan (Buenos Aires, Argentina) beat Dallas Elmore of Holmes 6-1, 6-1 in No. 1 singles. In No. 2 singles, Sergio Garcia (Cota, Cundinamarca) fell to Cole Wagoner of Gulf Coast 6-1, 6-1.
Later in the afternoon, Ethan Clopton of Meridian eliminated Keith with a 6-1, 7-6 (5) win in No. 4 singles. Hayden Embry (Philadelphia) won 6-0, 6-1 over Jamie Hernandez of Holmes. Darrell Rexrode of Hinds defeated Brody Clayton (Iuka) 6-4, 6-1 in No. 6 singles.
DOUBLES
Duncan and Garcia defeated Dylan Barnett and Peyton Chaney of East Central 6-4, 6-2 before falling to Evan Chubb and Patrick Rother of Gulf Coast in No. 2 doubles semifinals. Roldan and Blake Gregory (Pontotoc) beat Elmore and Richard Hernadez of Holmes before dropping a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Carlos Trujillo and Mateo Garcia of Hinds in the semifinal round of No. 1 doubles. Keith and Embry rallied to knock off Michael Phillips and Jaco Wiggins of Meridian 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 before being eliminated after a 6-3, 6-3 loss to Rexrode and Eric Holmes in the No. 3 doubles seminfinals.
