Highlanders sweep doubleheader of Eagles
The McLennan Highlanders swept today's doubleheader with the Northeast Texas Eagles in Mt. Pleasant.
McLennan took game one 6-2 with Griffin Lewis picking up the win on the mound.
The Highlanders took an early lead with four runs in the top of the second inning. Daniel Harden led off with a double and moved to third on a ground out by AJ Goytia. McClane Helton followed with a triple to score Harden, and Deiten Lachance singled to score Helton. Cage McCloud doubled and Owen Smith walked to load the bases. Lachance scored on a passed ball, and McCloud scored on a ground out by Sherman Johnson.
Northeast Texas got on the board with a run in the fourth. Luke Regas singled and advanced to third on an error. Jonathan Gonzales then grounded out to score Regas.
McLennan added a run in the fifth. Spencer Butt walked and advanced on a fielder's choice by Marcus Smith. Harden then singled to score Butt.
Another Highlander run scored in the sixth as Lachance doubled and scored on a double by Cage McCloud.
The Eagles final run came in the bottom of the seventh. Braden Duff singled and Bryson Bentley walked. Jonathan Kent also walked, loading the bases. Duff then scored on an error.
In the nightcap, the Highlanders defeated the Eagles 6-1 with John Carmichael picking up the win.
McLennan scored one in the first as Johnson doubled, advanced on a sac bunt by Butt and scored on a sac fly by Lachance.
Two more Highlander runs scored in the fourth. Lachance and Harden walked and advanced on a sac bunt by Ty Waid. Lachance scored on a sac fly by Helton. Harden then stole third and scored on an error.
Another two McLennan runs scored in the eighth as Harden singled and scored on Waid's home run.
Northeast Texas' only run came in the bottom of the eighth. Boston Seahorn singled and Gonzales walked. Braden Duff then singled to score Seahorn.
The Highlanders tacked on one final run in the ninth. McCloud and Walker Freeman walked. Both runners stole a base and McCloud scored on Johnson's single.
