Co-Lin dominates second half against Meridian

WESSON, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves out scored the Meridian Community College Eagles 46-27 in the second half Thursday night to secure an 85-58 victory. The win is the Wolves' seventh in a row and moves the team to 14-1 overall and 5-1 in the MACJC South Division. Co-Lin is on the road next week beginning with Pearl River Community College on Monday, January 29th followed by Jones County Junior College on Thursday, February 1st. "We had to have this win tonight," said head coach Kenny Bizot. "A lot of credit to our guys for picking it up in the second half and making shots…Floyd is such a luxury to have, he always creates things for us."

Neither team could pull away for most of the first half as baskets were traded on both ends of the floor. With just under 10 minutes remaining in the half the game was tied for the fourth time at 13 all, and just six minutes later the game was tied at 23 apiece. Co-Lin found it's footing in the final minutes of the half and led by eight, 39-31 entering the second half.

Co-Lin began to stretch their lead in the second half and led by double-digits on several occasions in the first 10 minutes. The Wolves went on a 9-2 run midway through the half led by sophomore point guard Jonathan Floyd. The run gave Co-Lin a 57-42 lead.  In the following minutes, the Wolves continued to pour in the baskets and went on a 13-3 run to pull the game even further out of reach, 72-49, with 5:40 remaining in the contest.

Co-Lin continued this scoring barrage for the remaining minutes and led by as many as 31 late in the game.

Floyd led the Wolves with 23 points, his second most on the season. Freshman Miles Daniels came off the bench for the Wolves and scored 12, while sophomores Darrian Wilson and Youry White scored 11 each. White led the Wolves on the boards with 10 rebounds to secure his seventh double-double on the year, and third in as many games. Carl Terrell hauled in five rebounds for the Wolves. Wilson led the Wolves with four assist, while Lazorian McNulty posted three.

Alex Perry and Eric Fuller led Meridian in scoring with 13 points each, and Vernell Garner led the Eagles on the glass with nine.

Co-Lin shot 56 percent (35-for-63) from the field, 44 percent (4-for-9) from the three-point line, and 65 percent (11-for-17) from the foul stripe. The Eagles finished the night shooting 38 percent (21-for-55) from the field, 33 percent (8-for-24) from beyond the arc, and 50 percent (8-for-16) from the free throw line.

The Wolves take on Pearl River Community College Monday, January 29th in a huge MACJC South Division match up. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
