#2 Knights Emerge Victorious after Hard Fought Battle vs #5 Genesee

The #2 CCBC Essex Knights Men's Lacrosse Team finds themselves in the win column again as they defeat the #5 Genesee Community College Cougars by a score of 15-10. Peyton Moritzen and Ezekiel Lomax both lead the Knights with three goals each. Goalie Colin Parker also had 17 saves

Moritzen scored the game's first goal a little over 2 minutes into the game. The Knights were able to keep the Cougars in check offensively, holding them to 1-13 shooting. Parker was able to personally deny four of the shots. The Cougars were an abysmal 2-7 on clear attempts, and ended the first with nine turnovers. The Knights capitalized off of these opportunities, and managed to end the first with a 4-1 lead.

The second saw the game tilt more in favor of the Cougars as they dominated the faceoffs (4-6 to 2-6), and the ground ball battles (9 to 3). They managed to turn these opportunities into the three goals in the period, which the Knights were able to match. The Knights production in the first allowed them to still have a three goal lead going into half.

The Cougars began the third with scoring the first two goals of the period, as they dominated the faceoffs once again. They converted those wins into points early, as they scored all of their three goals in that quarter before the halfway mark. The Knights were able to match that production though, as two late goals by Moritzen and Matthew Benzing tied the goals scored at three.

Coming into the fourth quarter with just a three-point lead, the Knights understood that the game was far from over. They had to continue the momentum that they had from the third and they managed to do just that. The Knights won the faceoff battle for the quarter (5-9) and didn't squander those opportunities either as they outscored the Cougars 5-3. Connor Anderson scored two of those goals within the last five minutes to put the Cougars away for good, ensuring the 15-10 win.

The Knights will look to increase their win streak to three as they take on Sussex County Community College Friday, March 7th at 4:00 PM.
