WALTERS STATE TAKES TCCAA/NJCAA REGION VII TOURNAMENT
The Walters State Senators won the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament this pass t week at the Chattanooga State Baseball Complex. They defeated Pellissippi State in the championship game by a 12-1 final. With the championship, they will host the Appalachian District Championship May13-15 versus Georgia Highlands in a best two of three series for the automatic bid to the NJCAA Division I Baseball World Series at Sam Suplizio Field in Grand Junction (CO) starting on May 24 and running through May 31.
Walters would open the scoring in the bottom of the second when they plated three runs. Holden Pantier would score on a Carson Cabbage single. With two outs, Jack Torbett would double and score on a Taylor Harris double. Harris would score the thrid run on a Kole Fenton double.
Pellissippi would cut into the lead in the Dylan Werhas would be hit by a pitch and score later on a ground out. Walters would get that run back in the fourth as Brantley Bramberg would scor eon a sacrifice fly by Fenton.
Jack Vogele would hit a solo home run in the fifth to increase the lead, and then Senators would end the game in the seventh as they scored seven runs on four hits with the the final runs scoring on a two out home run by Vogele with Nate Conner on base.
The Senators had 15 hits i the game as Vogele and Pantier each had three hits. Conner, Torbett, and Tyler Myatt each had two hits in the game. Fenton would match Vogele with three RBIS. Rielly Byers got the win in relief as he went four innings, surrendering no runs on no hits while striking out three and walking two batters.
Pellissippi had two hits in the game with Parker Peeler and Zach Wieder each with a single. Micah Hoffmeister took the loss as he went six and a third innings, surrendering eight earned runs on 13 hits with one strikeout and two walks.
Jack Torbett of Walters State was named the MVP of the tournament.
