Baseball Stumbles To Barton In Region VI Super Regional

WICHITA, Kan. – The eighth-seeded KCKCC baseball team took on No. 1 seed Barton County in the Region VI Super Regional Tournament on Wednesday, where they stumbled 14-5 in their first game of the tournament.

KCKCC is now 37-22 on the season.

Brady Patterson got the team on the board first with an RBI single in the second inning, but Barton tied it in the bottom half before scoring two unanswered runs. As the Blue Devils trailed 3-1 in the third inning, Jackson Mervosh cut into the deficit with a sacrifice fly ball in to score Jett Buck. KCKCC tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth inning when Gehrig Goldbeck got a base hit to score Lee Allen Jr.

With the momentum shifting momentarily, Barton was able to score six unanswered runs in the fifth inning to hold a comfortable 9-3 lead. Patterson added a home run in the sixth, while Goldbeck hit a sacrifice fly to knock in a run. But the lead was unsurmountable as Barton added five more runs in the game, to win 14-5.

Patterson and Jase Woita each had two hits in the game. Cooper Carlgren threw four innings and struck out four batters.

KCKCC will play Thursday at 1 p.m. against either Cowley County or Cloud County.
