Castle leads NIACC men at Iowa Central Fall Invite
FORT DODGE - Sophomore Tim Castle shot a 75 to lead the NIACC men's golf team Monday at the Iowa Central Fall Invitational at the Fort Dodge Country Club.
The 75 by Castle was one shot of his career collegiate best of 74, which he shot at the Buena Vista Fall Invitational on Sept. 18, 2022.
"it was a good day for scoring (Monday), but other than Tim Castle, it was a frustrating day for the Trojans," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "Tim had a very good mindset (Monday) and stuck to his game plan all day.
"It was great to see him bounce back after a tough outing at Galena."
NIACC placed seventh with a team total of 335. Iowa Central was the team champion with a 293 and DMACC was second with a 299.
Also for the Trojans on Monday, Anders Palmquist shot 86, Jackson Koebernick and Elic Fjetland both shot 87 and Tommy Birdsell shot 88.
NIACC's Mitchell Staudt shot a career-best 80, Bennett Suntken shot 92 and Noah Atkinson shot 97.
"The others just couldn't get themselves going (Monday) as there was a lot of self doubt and shaking their heads early in the round," Frenz said. "It's hard to battle back when you're telling yourself how bad you are. We have to get better at that.
"Golf is 97 percent mental and we didn't win that battle (Monday)."
NIACC returns to action Saturday and Sunday at the Buena Vista Invitational in Storm Lake.
"We'll get better and get after it this weekend," Frenz said.
Team standings - Iowa Central 293, DMACC 299, Grinnell JV 314, Hawkeye CC 319, Iowa Lakes 322, Buena Vista JV 333, NIACC 335, Simpson JV 341.
