Cougars Come Close but Drop Two Conference Games

Cougars Come Close but Drop Two Conference Games

Earlier this week the Coastal Bend College Men's Basketball program hosted the #7 nationally ranked, Tyler Junior College Apaches. The contest on Monday, January 6th would mark CBC's first Region XIV home conference of the 2020 New Year.

The first half of the ball game was fast pace and highly competitive between both teams. Coastal Bend trailed Tyler at the break, 44-42. CBC's Emmanuel White and Elijah Moleon both lead the club in scoring at intermission with 14 and 12 points, respectfully.

In the second half, TJC slowly built up a 65-51 lead on the Cougars. The Apaches then extended their lead, 77-56 to maintain control of the game. Coastal Bend did make a late run, but it was all too little too late. The Cougars trimmed the deficit as low as nine points before the final buzzer rang, 89-80 in favor of Tyler.

Coastal Bend's Center, Moleon finished with 28 points for the game. White completed the game with 14 points, Point Guard, Lance-Amir Paul netted 10 points for the Cougars. Forward, Eric Conner poured in 11 points to help CBC in scoring.

Next up for Coastal Bend would be a road game in Bossier City, La against Bossier Parish Community College. The Region XIV conference contest took place on Wednesday night on January 8th in the Billy Montgomery Gymnasium.

CBC started off the first half strong, as both teams took turns scoring on one another. The Cougars kept the game close as they trailed BPCC at halftime, 27-29.

Once the second half began, it picked up right where it left off; both the Cavaliers and Cougars competing at a high level. The pace of the game picked up, but BPCC had other plans just outscoring Coastal Bend by hitting six free throws down the stretch to put the game out of reach. CBC fought till the bitter end, but it was not enough as they fell, 68-73.

CBC's Emmanuel White and Lance-Amir Paul led the offensive scoring with 19 and 15 points, respectively.

Coastal Bend currently holds an overall record of 6-9 on the season and falls to 0-5 in conference play. The Cougars next game will be at home at the Peter S. Marecek Physical Fitness Center at 4:00 pm on Saturday, January 11th as they host Panola College for a Region XIV showdown.
