Lady Commodores Use First Set Comeback to Cruise to 3-0 Sweep of Cuyahoga Community College
Sept. 5, 2018 -- The Lorain County Community College volleyball team turned around a 24-21 deficit in the first set versus Tri-C to earn a 28-26 nail-biter which vaulted the Lady Commodores to a 28-26, 25-17, 25-16 sweep of the Lady Challengers tonight in Elyria.
In that first set, LCCC accumulated 29 digs to keep Tri-C at bay. "That's an incredible number of digs for one set," Head Coach Ted Whitsel pointed out.
The Lady Commodores offense was paced by a pair of freshmen. Maddie Markovich (Sheffield Village/Christian Community) topped the squad with 12 kills and added nine assists. Kara Sullinger (North Ridgeville/North Ridgeville) contributed eight kills and was the assist leader with 16.
Sophomore defensive specialist Angela Dunn (Fairview Park/Fairview) came up big on defense with 20 digs. Freshman Sarah Severo (Columbia Station/Columbia) chipped in with 13 digs.
The scrappy Lady Commodores improved to 5-4 for the season and earned their first (OCCAC) conference win of the season. LCCC will compete in the Shannon McBride Invitational this Friday and Saturday, September 7 - 8, at Lakeland Community College.
