Bears dominate Bruins

Baton Rouge Bears had its offense firing on all cylinders and their pitching shut down the Kellogg Bruins tonight at Pete Goldsby Field. The Bears defeated the Bruins 11 to 1 behind a two hitter by freshman pitcher Jacob Poe.

Kellogg would get on the board first with a run in the first. The Bears would respond and tie the game at one in the bottom of the frame. Nathan Beyer would reach base by getting hit by a pitch. Beyer would steal second and third and score when Nathan Carriere would reach on an error. The Bears would take the lead for good, in the third inning, when they would plate five runs. Nathan Beyer would strike again with a single to centerfield. Beyer would again steal second and third. Blaise Foote would single scoring Beyer to take a 2-1 lead.  Alex Guilbeau would hit a double up the middle scoring three more runs. Cameron Guitreau would follow Guilbeau with a single up the middle scoring Guilbeau. After three innings, the Bears led 6 to1.

Baton Rouge would add two more runs in the fourth inning via a Nathan Beyer two run homer to right field. The Bears would score three more runs in the fifth inning to seal the 11 to 1 five inning run rule victory.

The Bears were aggressive on the base paths tonight stealing 10 bases while only getting caught twice.

Jacob Poe earned the complete game victory for the Bears. He pitched five innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out five. Nolan Hood earned the loss for the Bruins. He pitched two and a third innings, allowing six runs on three hits.

 

Bears Highlights:

Nathan Beyer went 3 for 3 with 4 runs, 4 RBIs, 1 HBP- and 1 HR

Blaise Foote went 1 for 2 with 1 run, 1RBI and 1 BB

Luis Marmolejos went 1 for 1 with 1 RBI

Nathan Carriere went 1 for 2 with 1 run and 1 BB

Alex Guilbeau went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 3 RBIs

Cody Crifasi went 1 for 2

 

With the victory, the Bears improve to 11-13 on the season.

 

 

The Bears will be back in action tomorrow, March 3, as they will play East Central Mississippi Community College at 4 pm at Pete Goldsby Field. East Central will play Kellogg at 1 pm.
