Fennell Sets New Record in 100 Yard IM

JAMESTOWN - It continues to be a magical season for the Jamestown Community College men's swimming & diving team as they dominate  Genesee Community College, 98-34.

 

"I'm impressed with all the gain from our team tonight," said Head Coach Todd Conklin. "Matt (Fennell) posted a new career-record in the 100 yard IM with Eathan and Elliot Johnson both picking up wins. Jackson (Vanstrom) continues to show improvements. I'm proud of this group and great to see the growth in such a challenging time."

 

For the Jayhawks (3-0, 3-0 WNYAC), Matthew Fennell (Fourways Garden, Johannesburg, South Africa/King Edwards VII School) had a career-day in the pool, setting a new pool record in the 100 yard IM. Fennell posted a time of 1:10.02, breaking the previous time of 1:13.00 set by teammate Eathan Johnson (Panama, NY/Panama Central) just two weeks ago. Fennell also placed first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 27.25.

 

Elliot Johnson (Panama, NY/Panama Central) placed first in the 100 yard freestyle (57.18) and 200 yard freestyle (2:10.23).

 

Jackson Vanstrom (Jamestown, NY/Southwestern High) also picked up a pair of wins on the night, posting a time of 21:13.62 in the 1650 yard freestyle and a new personal best 6:12.32 in the 500 yard freestyle. Vanstrom shaved off one tenth of a second from his previous 500 yard freestyle time.

 

Eathan Johnson picked up a win in the 200 yard IM, posting a time of 2:42.35.

 

Colby Pantall (Jamestown, NY/Maple Grove) had one win on the night, posting a time of 3:02.07 in the 200 yard backstroke.

 

Maksat Mametjumayev (Sayat, Lebap, Turkmenistan/Ashgabat #19) continues to show improvement in the pool, finishing with a time of 41.79 in the 50 yard freestyle. Mametjumayev  shaved off nearly 14 seconds from his previous time.

 

JCC wrapped up the night with a win in the 400 yard freestyle relay, posting a time of 4:12.42 with the team of Jackson, Pantall, and Eathan and Elliot Johnson

 

The Jayhawks will be back in the pool next Monday, March 29th, as they take on Erie Community College at 5 p.m.
