Furious Comeback Falls Short Versus McLennan

San Antonio College vs CBC 97-69

After a monumental road trip to start the 2017-2018 season, where the CBC Women's Basketball team played three nationally ranked teams, the Cougars finally returned home to the friendly confines of the Peter S. Marecek Physical Fitness Center.  The result was blowout performance over San Antonio College.  The Cougars found the offense they had been missing in the previous week in a big way, coming up three points shy of the century mark defeating the Lady Rangers 97-69.  Darias Whittington led all scores with 19 points, shooting 8 of 12 from the floor.  Whittington was one five Cougars did hit double digits.  Aryanna Brown tossed in 15 points, including an impressive 7 of 10 from the free-throw line.  She was followed by freshman Emiko Hemphill's 13 points to go along with her 15 rebounds.  Angela Barela dropped in 12 on a perfect shooting night as she hit all six of the shots she took.  Taiya Dixon dropped in 10 points of her own.

CBC at Palo Alto College 92-37

The Cougars rolled up I-37 on Tuesday when they took on Palo Alto College.  The high test fuel the bus runs on must have gotten into the Cougars systems as they raced to a jaw dropping 33-3 first period lead from which the ladies would never falter.  Freshman forward Emiko Hemphill would lead the Cougars with 15 points, while collecting nine rebounds (eight on the offensive glass).  Sophomore floor general Samantha Atkinson-Roach knocked down 12 points, and dished out a team high six assists.  She joined Marissa Andrews 11 points Angela Barela and Aryanna Brown who each scored 10 as five Cougars reached double digits offensively.

McLennan Community College at CBC 89-75

Playing their third contest in five days against Region V power McLennan Community College, the Cougars looked like that the size and strength of MCC was going to simply be too much.  Staring at 63-42 deficit to start the fourth period, the Cougars decided to push through the fatigue and make one last effort to win their third game in a row.  Down 21 points, the Cougars scratched, clawed, dove for loose balls, and cut the lead to six points with two minutes remaining.  MCC would make its free-throws down the stretch to hold on 89-75, but the Cougars showed that they have no quit in them as they outscored MCC 33-26 in the final stanza.

"We had a great fourth quarter and really executed our 1-2-2 press well," stated CBC Head Coach Nathan Purswell.  "A little more work on our half court press and containing our opponent's post game and we are there! I'm proud of these ladies for their fight and hard work." continued Purswell.

CBC will open its Region XIV slate versus on Boosier Parish Community College at home Monday November 20th at 1 p.m.
