TJC wins 3-0 to complete sweep of North Arkansas

Mason Whitmarsh tossed a two-hitter as No. 9 Tyler Junior College scored a 3-0 win over North Arkansas College on Sunday, sweeping the three-game series at Mike Carter Field.

The Apaches, who won two games on Saturday 12-1 and 13-3, have won five straight games to improve to 15-13 on the season.

TJC returns to play on Monday, traveling to Weatherford College for a 6 p.m. game. The Apaches also have a 7 p.m. game Wednesday at UT Tyler JV.

On Sunday, Whitmarsh kept the Pioneers under control by allowing two singles and striking out four.

Michael Morissette had a home run and an RBI, while Braden Wise had a single and sacrifice fly for two RBIs. Cade Watson was 3 for 3 with a double and two singles with Fiver Trimble adding a single.

Rhett Moore and JD Vaughn had the hits for North Arkansas (8-18).

On Saturday, the Apaches won the first game 12-1 as Morissette had a grand slam and a total of five RBIs.

Other top hitters for TJC were Watson (2B, 2 RBIs), Taylor Broadway (1B), Trimble (1B), Kaleb Bell (2 singles), Wise (1B, 2B, RBI) and Alick Arnold (2 singles, 2 RBIs).

Keith Long pitched four innings, allowing three hits and no runs while striking out two. Daniel Bogue pitched the final inning, allowing two hits and a run while striking out one.

Jared Johnson, Jonah Williamson, Mason Kinder, Trenton Stone and Vaughn had singles for the Pioneers. Austin Passmore had an RBI.

In the second game on Saturday, TJC won 13-3, but fell behind 3-1 before plating five runs each in the fourth and fifth innings.

Kason Davis was 5 for 5 with five RBIs. He had a two-run homer, along with a triple and three singles.

Morissette had two doubles and four RBIs for nine runs batted in on the day. Other top hitters for TJC were Arnold (2B), John Mike Bounds (1B, RBI), Ty Meissner (RBI), Bell (1B, 3B) and Wise (1B).

Johnson and Moore had doubles for the Pioneers. Other hits were from Hayden Fennel (1B), Carter West (1B, RBI), Williamson (1B), Kinder (RBI) and Jacob Watson (1B).

Cameron Carver got the win in relief of Austin Kelley (3 2/3 innings, 5 hits, 2 earned runs, 5 strikeouts). Carver pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing a hit, no runs with four strikeouts.
