Latham and Murrell-Ross makes program impacts, Barton women's track and field adds four additional national qualifiers at Washburn Rust Buster #GoBarton

Two meets into the season, members of the Barton Community College women's track and field team continued their impact on the storied program record book as the Cougars gained four additional national qualifiers competing Saturday at the Washburn Rust Buster in Topeka, Kansas.

Overall the Cougars had seventeen Top-10 placers at the packed one-day event, setting eight new personal bests.

For the second straight week, Kelsie Murrell-Ross bettered her personal shot put best in replacing her mark as the 4th furthest in program history with an event winning 15.76m (51-08.50) on the second throw of the day.

Earlier in the day, the weight throw meet record was taken down as fellow sophomore Efe Latham unleashed a 16.57m (54-04.50) on her third turn and release for a program 8th furthest mark to win the event by nearly three feet.

In addition to the pair of titles within their thirteen top-five placings, the Cougars had a trio of runner-ups.

One of those came in the triple jump as Barton finished 2nd and 3rd, Brittania Ingram marking a 11.67m (38-03.50) with Kay-Lagay Clarke's first time in the event produced a 11.57m (37-11.50) giving both tickets to the national indoor championships.

Clarke also punched her ticket in the 60m hurdles with a personal best 8.93 with Danae Nembhard's personal best of 8.63 finished runner-up of the 36-competitor field.

Having run the indoor 200m just once her freshman season, Naiya Morgan made her sophomore season debut in the event with an impressive 24.72 nation's fourth fastest time to finish second on Saturday.

The Cougars head south for its next meet in traveling to Lubbock, Texas, participating in the three-day Texas Tech Open and Multis held January 26-28.
