Highlanders crush Cavaliers
The McLennan Highlanders crushed the Bossier Parish Cavaliers 84-70 tonight at The Highlands.
Bossier Parish struck first with a Charlie Cochran 3-pointer from the corner in front of the MCC bench. An Allen Hatchett floater in the lane gave the Cavaliers the early 5-0 lead. Tre Thomas put McLennan on the board with a put back but a quick Bossier Parish bucket extended the lead back to five, 7-2. The next five minutes would be a series of alternating runs by the two squads. Lorenzo Adams and Cameron Copeland combined for a 6-0 run to give the Highlanders their first lead of the contest at 8-7. The Cavaliers responded with a 7-0 run of their own to go up by six, 14-8. Another McLennan run capped by an Asare Otchere dunk tied the game at 14 with nine minutes to play in the first half and fired up the Highlanders. McLennan built a five-point lead at 24-19 with 5:22 to go before the half. Bossier Parish trimmed the lead to one a minute later but the Highlanders pulled away to take the 37-31 lead into the locker room.
McLennan opened the second half with back-to-back buckets from Akili Vining to take the first double-digit lead of the game, 41-31. Bossier Parish cut the lead to eight on a Diamante Brown bucket but it was all Highlanders from there. McLennan pulled away down the stretch with sharp shooting and strong defense. The Highlanders extended the lead to 20, 73-53, with 5:31 and continued to roll until the final buzzer.
Chris Pryor led McLennan with 21 points and Akili Vining added 17.
