Aztecs softball drops doubleheader at home against Paradise Valley CC

The Pima Community College softball team (15-18, 11-15 in ACCAC) dropped a pair of ACCAC conference games on Saturday against Paradise Valley Community College (10-20, 10-20) on Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Softball Field.

  • Game 1: Paradise Valley CC Pumas 12, Pima CC Aztecs 3: The Pumas scored four runs in each the 5th and 7th innings.
    Freshman Kylee Leach stood out for the Aztecs on offense. She belted a three-run home run to drive in sophomores Ariana Gomez (Sahuaro HS) and Alese Casper in the 5th inning to cut the deficit to 8-3.
    Leach was 1 for 1 with three RBIs and a run scored. Casper went 2 for 4 with a run scored while Gomez was 0 for 3 with a run scored.
    Freshman Bianca Castillo (Rio Rico HS) took the loss (5-7) as she pitched four and one-third innings giving up seven runs (five earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts.

  • Game 2: Paradise Valley CC Pumas 3, Pima CC Aztecs 1: The Pumas got on the board first as the Aztecs managed one run and seven hits in the game.
    Freshman Samantha Angulo (Mountain View HS) reach on an error and sophomore Janice Garcia (Rio Rico HS) scored Pima's only run in the 2nd inning. The Aztecs trailed 2-1 after the inning. The Pumas tacked on a run in the 3rd inning to pad their lead.
    Sophomore Devynn Marshall (Shadow Ridge HS) finished the game 2 for 4 while Garcia and sophomore Jessica Lozania (Sahuarita HS) each finished 1 for 2.
    Freshman Abril Nerey (Rio Rico HS) took the loss (4-6) as she pitched a good game going all seven innings giving up three runs (three earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

The Aztecs are off until Saturday when they play at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. The first game starts at noon.
