Women Basketball Falls in Region XIV Opener

Women Basketball Falls in Region XIV Opener

Through three quarters the Coastal Bend College Women's Basketball team had the Lady Cavaliers of Bossier Parish (LA) Community College right where they wanted them.  The Cougars had largely negated the Lady Cav's size advantage down low with their press and guard play.  The Fourth Quarter however would be an entirely different story.

The first two periods where a back and forth, nip and tuck battle.  BPCC going to the low post and CBC launching shots from behind the arc.  BPCC looked to have an early advantage getting the Cougars lone "big" Taiya Dixon into early foul trouble, but the long range ability of the Cougars would leave the game knotted at 37 a piece at the half.

The third period was more of the same, as BPCC would substitute as many as four players at time to keep fresh legs on the floor, while CBC would rotate between a three guard and four guard set.  The smaller line-up was damaging, as they were able to turn up the defensive pressure time and time again collecting steals, forcing bad Lady Cavalier shots and creating general mayhem on the court that would give the Cougars a 53-52 lead entering the final stanza.

The size and bench depth of the Lady Cavaliers began to take its toll in the fourth period.  BPCC was able to find cracks in the CBC press and defensive rotations, scoring at will.   Darias Whittington once again led the offensive charge for the Cougars scoring 19, while her fellow back court mates, Samantha Atkinson-Roach and Aryanna Brown dropped in 15 and 13 respectively.

The Cougars will return to action on Wednesday, November 29th at 5:30 pm when they travel to Tyler to take on fellow Region XIV member Tyler Junior College.
