Trojans spoil Holmes' Homecoming, 24-15

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs fought hard on Homecoming 2021 but came up short here today to the Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans, 24-15.

The Bulldogs fell to 0-8 on the season. Holmes ends the season on Thursday night at Northeast Mississippi Community College at 6:30 p.m.

Mississippi Delta got on the scoreboard first in the game on a 51-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was good, and Delta led 7-0 with 14:23 left in the first quarter.

Holmes answered the touchdown with a 15-play and 77 yard scoring drive that was topped off by a one yard run from Kerrick Ross. Luke Moffett's extra point was no good.

Delta answered the score on a 67- yard touchdown pass. The extra point was good, and Delta led 14-6 with 4:29 left in the first.

Moffett hit a 20-yard field goal with 13 seconds left before halftime. Delta led 14-9 at halftime.

In the third, Delta scored with 56 seconds left in the third to go up 21-9 after the extra point was good.

Jordan Willis connected with Ross on a 50-yard pass with 12:49 left in the game. The two-point run was no good.

Delta added a field goal with 3:18 to go from 25 yards to end all scoring at 24-15.

Ty'Vez Tate had 49 yards on 13 carries while Ross had 47 on nine carries and Javontae Matthew had 44 yards on 12 carries.

Braxton Bolton led the Bulldogs with nine tackles while D'Arrion Washington and Zak Morris each had five and Jordan Milton, Justice Robinson and Jacquel Honer each had four. Washington had one tackle for loss for three yards while Milton had three TFLs for 11 yards and Honer had 1.5 TFLs for three yards.
